Rotational magnetic separators

The pull-out rotary magnetic separator is used in industrial sectors for the separation of materials with poorer flow properties that tend to arch (e.g., spice mixtures, flour, powdered sugar, soot, etc.). It has excellent separation properties, which are particularly valued in the food industry, chemical industry, construction and ceramics industry, plastics and rubber processing industry, and waste management.

The purpose of the pull-out rotary magnetic separator is to protect the technology used, on which traces of ferromagnetic impurities from materials are left. The separator also works effectively on the principle of cleaning the product used. It effectively removes impurities from the surface of the device thanks to its high magnetic force.

Key Advantages of Rotational Magnetic Separators

Ideal for powders with poor flow characteristics

The rotating system prevents bridging, clogging or material buildup, making it suitable for cohesive powders such as flour, starch, sugar, spices, chemicals, or mineral powders.

High magnetic performance

The rods contain high-intensity neodymium magnets capable of capturing fine ferrous dust, rust flakes, steel fragments and iron particles.

Continuous and stable flow

Rotation ensures constant mixing and even distribution of the product across the magnetic field.

Hygienic and easy to clean

Designed for quick disassembly and maintenance, making them suitable for industries with strict hygiene standards.

Energy-efficient operation

Only the rotation mechanism requires power – the magnetic system is based on permanent magnets with zero energy consumption.

Custom-built designs available

Units can be made to fit specific hoppers, chutes, pipelines or production lines.

1Buy this design when the material will not flow

A rotational separator exists for one reason: materials with poor flow properties that tend to arch. Spice mixtures, flour, powdered sugar and soot bridge above a static grid, stop flowing and the operator ends up poking at the separator instead of running the line.

The rotating system keeps the material moving, so bridging, clogging and buildup do not get a chance to form. If your material flows freely, a standard grid or a telescopic grate separator does the same job for far less money.

2Read the designation before comparing prices

A code such as MSVR 260x260/4 means a separator with an inlet of 260 by 260 mm and four magnetic rods. The range covers sizes including MSVR 200x200/4 and MSVR 260x260/4.

Size follows from the opening in your piping, the rod count from how fine the contamination is. Those two numbers, not the model name, decide whether the unit fits your line.

3Expect neodymium and a fine barrier

The rods contain high intensity neodymium magnets capable of capturing fine ferrous dust, rust flakes, steel fragments and iron particles. That matters here more than in other designs, because the cohesive powders these units handle are exactly the ones where fine iron hides.

The rotation also ensures constant mixing and even distribution of the product across the magnetic field, so the material does not pass the rods in an untreated stream on one side.

4Count on one power connection

Only the rotation mechanism requires power. The magnetic system is based on permanent magnets with zero energy consumption, so there is no electromagnet to energise and nothing that loses separation ability during a power cut.

Plan the connection into the installation from the start, including where the control sits and who switches the unit on and off with the line.

5Check the access for cleaning and inspection

These separators are designed for quick disassembly and maintenance, which is what makes them suitable for industries with strict hygiene standards. Cleaning also removes impurities from the surface of the device itself, not only from the product stream.

Before installation, work out whether an operator can reach the unit with a container in hand. A hygienically designed separator mounted where nobody can get to it is cleaned as rarely as any other.

6Treat it as a configured machine, not a catalogue item

Rotational separators are used in the food industry, the chemical industry, the construction and ceramics industry, plastics and rubber processing and waste management. Units can be made to fit specific hoppers, chutes, pipelines or production lines, which is the usual route at this level of equipment.

Tip: Send us the material name, the bulk density, the throughput per hour and the inlet dimension, and mention whether the powder tends to arch in the existing equipment. That last detail is what separates a rotational unit from a cheaper static design, and it is the one customers rarely think to write down.

Frequently asked questions about rotational magnetic separators

When the material has poor flow properties and tends to arch. Spice mixtures, flour, powdered sugar and soot bridge above a static grid and stop flowing, which turns every shift into manual intervention. The rotating system prevents bridging, clogging and buildup. For free flowing material a grid or a telescopic grate separator does the same separation job for considerably less.

It is the inlet dimension followed by the number of magnetic rods, so MSVR 260x260/4 has an inlet of 260 by 260 mm and four rods. The range includes MSVR 200x200/4 and MSVR 260x260/4. Take the size from the opening in your piping and the rod count from how fine the contamination you need to remove is.

Only for the rotation mechanism. The magnetic system uses permanent magnets with zero energy consumption, so there is no electromagnet to power and the separation capability does not disappear during a power cut. Plan the connection and the control point into the installation from the beginning.

The rods contain high intensity neodymium magnets able to capture fine ferrous dust, rust flakes, steel fragments and iron particles. The rotation adds a second effect that matters just as much: constant mixing and even distribution of the product across the magnetic field, so no part of the stream passes the rods untreated.

These units are designed for quick disassembly and maintenance, which is why they are used in the food industry as well as in chemicals, construction and ceramics, plastics and rubber processing and waste management. Before ordering, confirm with us the design and documentation your plant requires, and check that an operator can physically reach the unit where you plan to install it.

Yes. Units can be made to fit specific hoppers, chutes, pipelines or production lines, which at this level of equipment is the normal way of ordering. For a proposal we need the material and its bulk density, the throughput per hour, the inlet dimension and whether the material arches in the equipment you have now.

MAGSY European specialist in magnets and magnetic technology

Cohesive powders are where ordinary separators stop earning their keep: the material arches, the flow stops and the operator spends the shift clearing the equipment. The rotational separator solves it mechanically, because the rotating system prevents bridging, clogging and buildup while high intensity neodymium rods capture fine iron dust, rust flakes and steel fragments. The range includes MSVR 200x200/4 and 260x260/4, built for flour, starch, sugar, spices, chemical and mineral powders, with permanent magnets that consume no energy and only the rotation drive requiring power. Units are made to fit specific hoppers, chutes, pipelines or production lines, so tell us your material and throughput and we will configure one.
