Separator with telescopic grates
A separator with telescopic grates is an advanced magnetic separation system designed for quick and effortless cleaning. Thanks to the sliding (telescopic) construction of the magnetic rods, metal contaminants can be removed within seconds — significantly reducing downtime and improving hygiene in your production process. These separators are ideal for applications where ferrous contamination occurs frequently or where strict hygiene standards require regular cleaning.

List of products
Our extensive range of magnetic separators includes special products for the effective separation of dry mixtures, including pull-out magnetic separators. We offer various types of MSV magnetic separators in ECO, PLASTIC, UP, and STANDARD designs, as well as separators with automatic cleaning in STANDARD, LML, and ECO designs. They contain 3, 4, 5, or 7 magnetic rods with a pull-off force ranging from 34 N to 117 N per tube.
Magnetic separators with pull-out grates are commonly used to separate magnetic impurities from dry, homogeneous mixtures in small and fine fractions with good flow properties that are transported in industrial piping systems. The separated mixtures are poured into the MSV separator by gravity – they are designed for vertical piping. Magnetic separators with pull-out grates are used in industrial sectors – food industry, chemical industry, processing industry (plastics processing, rubber processing, waste recycling).
Key Advantages of Telescopic Grate Separators
Very fast and simple cleaning
Slide-out rods allow operators to clean the separator within seconds, reducing downtime and improving efficiency.
High magnetic performance
Strong neodymium magnets inside the rods capture even fine iron particles, rust, steel fragments and ferromagnetic dust.
Ideal for powders, granules and bulk materials
The design ensures maximum contact between the material and magnetic rods, improving metal removal efficiency.
Durable stainless-steel construction
Resistant to abrasion, corrosion and demanding production environments.
No energy consumption
Permanent magnets work continuously with zero power requirements and no moving mechanical parts.
Custom dimensions available
Telescopic grate separators can be tailored to fit hoppers, chutes, pipelines or processing lines of any size.
1Buy this design for the cleaning, not for the capture
Magnetically, a telescopic separator does what a grid does. What you are paying for is the sliding construction of the magnetic rods, which lets an operator pull the rods out of the flow and wipe them clean within seconds instead of dismantling anything.
That makes it the right choice wherever ferrous contamination appears often, or where hygiene rules require frequent cleaning and every minute of downtime costs money.
2Check that your piping is vertical and gravity fed
MSV separators are designed for vertical piping: the mixture is poured into the separator by gravity. They handle dry, homogeneous mixtures in small and fine fractions with good flow properties, which is exactly what moves through industrial piping systems.
For material on a belt, a magnetic plate is the answer. For a pressurised or pneumatic line, a flow-through separator. Fitting an MSV into a horizontal run does not work.
3Read the size and the rod count from the designation
A code such as MSV 150/5 means a nominal size of 150 with five magnetic rods. The range covers 3, 4, 5 and 7 rods in sizes from MSV 100/3 through 150/3, 150/5, 200/7 and 250/7, plus square versions such as 230x230/4 and 250x250/5, and DN versions with 3, 5 or 9 tubes at 10,000 Gs.
More rods means a finer barrier and a larger capture surface, fewer rods means less resistance to the flow. Match the size to the pipe, then choose the rod count by how fine the contamination is.
4Compare the pull-off force per tube
Across the range, the pull-off force runs from 34 N to 117 N per tube. That figure, together with the number of rods, tells you far more about the real performance of the unit than the headline size.
Fine iron dust and rust from mills and screw conveyors call for the upper end of the range. Visible fragments in a clean process are handled comfortably by the lower end, and the money is better spent on an easier cleaning mechanism.
5Pick the design line that matches the operation
MSV separators come in ECO, PLASTIC, UP and STANDARD designs, and there are versions with automatic cleaning in STANDARD, LML and ECO designs.
The rule of thumb: the more often the unit has to be cleaned and the harder it is to reach, the further you should move from ECO towards automatic cleaning. A separator on a platform three metres up gets cleaned as often as it is convenient, not as often as it should be.
6Match the unit to your industry and to your pipe
These separators are used in the food industry, the chemical industry and processing operations including plastics, rubber and waste recycling. The stainless steel construction resists abrasion, corrosion and demanding environments, and permanent magnets mean no power supply and no moving mechanical parts.
Dimensions are also made to measure, so the unit can be tailored to hoppers, chutes, pipelines or processing lines of any size.
Tip: When enquiring, state the pipe diameter or flange, the material and fraction, the throughput and how often you expect to clean. The cleaning frequency is what decides between an ECO unit and an automatic one, and it is the parameter most customers forget to mention.

Frequently asked questions about telescopic grate separators
It is the nominal size followed by the number of magnetic rods, so MSV 150/5 is a size 150 separator with five rods. The range covers designs with 3, 4, 5 and 7 rods, in sizes from MSV 100/3 up to 250/7, plus square versions such as 230x230/4 and 250x250/5. More rods means a finer barrier and more capture surface, fewer rods means less resistance to the flow.
The rods slide out of the material flow, so an operator removes the captured metal within seconds and the unit goes straight back into service. With a fixed grid you normally have to open the assembly and clean it in place. On a line where contamination appears frequently, that difference is the whole reason this design exists.
No. These separators are designed for vertical piping, with the mixture poured in by gravity. They suit dry, homogeneous mixtures in small and fine fractions with good flow properties. For material moving on a belt use a magnetic plate, and for a pneumatic or pressurised line a flow-through separator sized by DN.
Across the range the pull-off force runs from 34 N to 117 N per tube, and the DN versions with 3, 5 and 9 tubes state 10,000 Gs. Together with the rod count, this figure describes the real performance far better than the nominal size does. Fine iron dust calls for the upper end of the range, visible fragments in a clean process are handled by the lower end.
They are design lines differing in construction and equipment level, and there are also versions with automatic cleaning in STANDARD, LML and ECO designs. The practical rule: the more often the separator has to be cleaned and the worse the access to it, the further you should move from ECO towards an automatically cleaned unit. A separator that is awkward to reach gets cleaned when convenient, not when needed.
They are used in the food industry, the chemical industry and processing operations including plastics, rubber and waste recycling. Dimensions can be tailored to hoppers, chutes, pipelines or processing lines of any size, so a non standard pipe is not an obstacle. Send us the pipe diameter or flange, the material and fraction, the throughput and the expected cleaning frequency.
A separator only protects the line as long as somebody empties it, and that is the whole argument for telescopic grates: the rods slide out of the flow and are cleaned within seconds, so the unit gets emptied as often as it should be rather than as often as it is convenient. Our MSV range covers designs with 3, 4, 5 and 7 rods from MSV 100/3 up to 250/7, square versions such as 230x230/4, DN units at 10,000 Gs, and pull-off forces of 34 N to 117 N per tube, in ECO, PLASTIC, UP and STANDARD designs plus automatically cleaned versions. All are gravity fed for vertical piping, built in stainless steel and working without any power supply. Dimensions are tailored to your hopper, chute or pipeline.
