Understanding the stated holding force

Bear in mind that the stated holding force may vary under real operating conditions. Tests are carried out under ideal conditions, whereas in practice the result is influenced by a number of additional factors.

When choosing a magnet, take into account the operating environment, type of material, its dimensions and weight, as well as the surface condition and shape of the load.

What affects the holding force?

Several factors must be considered when selecting a magnet:

Air gap

The air gap is one of the most important factors. The greater the gap between the magnet and the load, the more the holding force decreases.

Material condition

This includes the type of material, its thickness and the condition of its surface. Mild steel has a higher magnetic permeability than some stainless steels, allowing the magnet to work more effectively.

Operating temperature

Temperature can affect magnetic performance. At higher temperatures, magnetic strength decreases, while at lower temperatures the effect may be stronger.
