Magnetic strips

Do you know them? Magnetic strips are a great solution for organising items and decorating metal surfaces. They are made from ferrite powder bonded with plastic and can be easily cut to the required shape.

Thanks to magnetic force, the strip adheres to metal appliances and surfaces such as refrigerators, microwave ovens, metal shelving in pantries and workshops, or vehicles.

What types of magnetic strips are there?

There are two basic types of flexible magnetic strips: self-adhesive magnetic strips and coloured magnetic strips.

Self-adhesive magnetic strips

This type is suitable for holding lightweight items, labelling shelves, shop windows, products and name tags, as well as for decorative purposes. One advantage is that it can be easily cut to the required size.

One side has a self-adhesive layer covered by protective paper, while the other side is magnetic. Remove the protective paper and stick the strip in the required position. We recommend applying it to a smooth, clean surface; otherwise, the effectiveness of the self-adhesive magnetic strip may be reduced.

Coloured magnetic strips

White, yellow, green, blue and other coloured magnetic strips are easy to identify and suitable for labelling. They do not have a self-adhesive layer, but you can write on them with a marker. The writing is usually difficult to remove, so they are better suited to permanent or single-purpose labelling.

How much can a magnetic strip hold?

It is important to know that a magnetic strip is not the same as a magnetic noticeboard. Magnets do not adhere to it as strongly, so it is not intended for heavy objects.

Our breakaway-force measurements are carried out under ideal conditions. The strip is attached across its entire surface to a steel plate and the force required to pull it away is measured.

The following conditions apply:

  • the base is made of clean steel,
  • the strip is in full-surface contact with the base,
  • the strip is pulled away perpendicular to the surface,
  • 1 cm² of strip is tested.

If you attach the strip to a sheet-metal cabinet, for example, and then place metal objects on it in a shear direction, the holding force will be significantly lower than when the strip is pulled directly away from the surface.

What are magnetic strips used for?

Magnetic strips can be used at home, in workshops, offices, schools, shops, medical facilities and warehouses.

Self-adhesive strips – ideas for use:

  1. Items that move around – stick the strip to a diary, briefcase, folder or wallet.
  2. Decoration – attach decorations to a metal grid in a shop window.
  3. Document sleeves – useful in offices or warehouses for clear labels and documents.
  4. Souvenirs – create small keepsakes for the refrigerator.
  5. Small items – neatly secure office supplies inside a drawer or on the side of a cabinet.

Coloured strips – ideas for use:

  1. Better workshop organisation – colour-code racks, cabinets and metal structures.
  2. Item identification – create symbols and labels for shops or warehouses.
  3. Signs – create labels such as Closed, Open, Special Offer or Sale.
  4. In restaurants – display the daily menu on a metal board.
  5. Wayfinding – provide clear guidance in unfamiliar spaces or at events.
