The magnetic pocket primarily protects the inserted sheet of paper from damage and can be elegantly attached to a metal base. We sell magnetic pockets in various designs for different uses. The classic pocket can be used as a form holder. Customers also often buy magnetic paper, but it does not protect the paper from damage like a magnetic pocket does.

1Choose the type by how the sheet is handled
All five versions hold a document on a steel surface, but they differ in what you can do with the sheet once it is in:
- Classic pocket: the sheet is fully covered by the transparent front. Best protection, ideal as a form holder.
- Pocket with frame: a coloured border around the document, so the information stands out on a busy board.
- Pocket with cut-out: the cut-out in the front gives you something to grip, so the sheet comes out with one finger when it is swapped often.
- Pocket with bend: the sheet stays accessible, so you can write on it without taking it out.
- Pocket for non-magnetic surfaces: a self-adhesive back for wood, plastic or glass.
2Pick the format from the document, not from the space
The range covers A5 (148 x 210 mm), A4 (210 x 297 mm) and A3 (297 x 420 mm), plus a narrow 114 x 40 mm pocket for shelf and rack labelling.
Always match the pocket to the paper size you actually print. A sheet in an oversized pocket slides down and sits crooked, and a document trimmed to fit a smaller pocket loses part of the print.
3Check that the surface is really magnetic
A magnetic pocket needs steel underneath it. Aluminium, most stainless steels, glass, wood, plastic and plasterboard hold nothing at all, and painted or coated sheet metal holds noticeably less than bare steel.
Test the spot with any small magnet before you order. If it does not stick, you have two routes: the self-adhesive pocket for non-magnetic surfaces, or turning the wall itself into a magnetic surface with an adhesive magnetic board or magnetic paint.
4Use colour as a system, not as decoration
Pockets are stocked in white, black, blue, green, orange, rose, yellow and red in RAL 3018, and the framed versions in blue, grey, red and yellow.
In a workshop or a warehouse that is worth planning: one colour for work instructions, another for quality documents, another for safety notices. Staff then read the colour from a distance and only walk up to the pocket that concerns them.
5Think about how often the document changes
For a sheet that stays in place for months, the classic pocket gives the best protection. For a document swapped every shift, the cut-out version saves a surprising amount of fiddling, and the bent version lets you write straight onto the sheet without removing it at all.
The narrow 114 x 40 mm pocket is built for the opposite case again: short labels on shelf edges and racking that change with the stock.
6Know what a pocket does and does not protect against
A pocket keeps the document legible and shields it from wear, dirt and a certain amount of moisture. It is not a sealed outdoor enclosure, so for a permanently wet or exposed position plan on replacing the print occasionally.
Tip: If you are equipping a whole workshop or shop floor, order one piece of two or three types first and let the people who will use them every day decide. The difference between a classic pocket and a cut-out one looks trivial in a photo and obvious after a week of swapping sheets.

Frequently asked questions about magnetic pockets
It depends on how often the sheet changes and whether anyone writes on it. The classic pocket covers the document completely and protects it best. The framed version adds a coloured border for visibility on a crowded board. The cut-out version gives you a grip, so a sheet swapped every shift comes out with one finger. The bent version leaves the sheet accessible so you can write on it in place.
Not an ordinary one, because it needs steel to hold on to. For those surfaces we stock a pocket for non-magnetic surfaces, which has a self-adhesive layer on the back and can be attached and removed repeatedly on wood, plastic, glass and other flat surfaces. The document itself is then held by the magnetic frame. The other route is to make the wall magnetic first, with an adhesive magnetic board or magnetic paint.

Magnetic paper is printed on directly and sticks to the steel by itself, which is quicker but leaves the print exposed to dirt and wear. A pocket holds an ordinary printed sheet behind a transparent front, so the document stays legible and can be replaced as often as you like without reprinting on a special medium. For anything that gets handled, a pocket lasts far longer.
Only up to a point. A pocket shields the sheet from damage, dirt and a certain amount of moisture, which is enough for a workshop, a warehouse or an unheated hall. It is not a sealed weatherproof case, so in a permanently exposed position expect to replace the print from time to time rather than treating it as an outdoor sign.
A magnetic pocket is the cheapest way to put a document where people actually need it, and the cheapest way to get it wrong is to buy the one type that does not match how the sheet is used.
